Beatrice Feo

Beatrice Feo (born 1970, Palermo) is a Sicilian artist, interested in discussing historical themes in a new kind of narrative painting. The main feature of her style is an elaboration of historical subjects and myths of ancient literature employing Pop-elements, termed Pop-Baroque. Through the continuous experimentation with materials and a strong figurative feature which is elaborated with signs, labels, slogans, and ornament remind of the Baroque style, which is reinterpreted. In her recent works, Beatrice Feo chooses historical characters, such as Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, J.S.Bach, Frederick II, Ophelia instead of classical Pop images such as objects from daily life. Recontextualized the figures turn into reproducible images, modern icons and figures of identification.
Beatrice Feo is currently working on a new series of Nordic heroes especially created for the Gallery. Feo was a student of Gianni Dova and was discovered by Philippe D'Averio. Her works are shown in various European galleries and were awarded with numerous prizes. She was invited to participate in the 52nd Venice Biennial.
