Davide Martinazzo was born on 28 july 1985 in Montebelluna (Treviso). He studied to become a Graphic Designer and got his diploma in 2004; in 2007 he specialised as an Academic Designer. During this year he became more deeply involved in contemporary art and he co-operated with some artists in various projects. He currently lives in Montebelluna; he is a designer and an interior decorator.
Davide Martinazzo has developed his pictorial research creating a separate universe, untied from every day life necessities and rich in evocations of the dimension, of feeling seen as the only experience which is able to connect all individuals.
The Artist moves to build up an inner place, far from the world’s commotion and hard geometries, retreating in an intimate dimension belonging at the same time to the common experience. A suspended dimension where every symbol appears asserting its presence in the space of a perspective emancipated by a new look, cabable of seeing with renewed wonder, therefore carrying an inexaustible creative force.
Through an intuition coming from the sphere of childhood, the complicated shapes belonging to the grown-up world get simpler and are drawn into the free space of a game in which the meanings and relevancies are dropped to give birth to the wonder and enchantment of discovery.
The Painter’s canvas becomes the place where all the elements can blend with one another in something soft and organic. Shapes become smoother and corners round off, while the silhouettes wind in a sinuous way. Colours are powerful, soft and warm making up a magic dream-world, a dream dimension, altogether a substantial, lasting dream capable of giving voice to childhood language or eros, where everything is soft, sweet and smooth.
It is a universe visited by fluctuating entities, by all means dominated by a strong affective power, an which impulse constantly celebrates the love for life and the playful pleasure of discovering the world.
The curved line gives a frame to the space of flow, giving birth to an ever free and dynamic morphology. The taste for intarsia, for the game of tabling of surfaces is found in most of the Artist’s works where sinuous caligraphy is repeated to create a weave, a decorative pattern filling up the perceptive screen, spreading in all directions.
In many cases it is musical notes in the shining hues of gold, almost representing the freedom of sounds spreading freely in the spaces; sometimes it is letters or words, used as sheer decoration elements, offering a soft and curved flow.
The decorative talent of the Artist is clearly expressed in the tendency of working the canvas as a texture, which is reflected also is his activity as a Designer. Icon pictures standing out from these backgrounds are stylized and light, and the emotional wave flowing from the background surges up to the pictures, always expressing dynamism and a joyful élan.
Besides the love for the decorative and graphic features, the Artist also expresses his love for materials, for the tactile manipulation of shapes and colours, lived as a moment of cognitive experience.
This is expressed in the choice of using a material like sand, which is mixed up with colours making the subjects stand out in relief.
From the bidimensional space of the canvas – worked like a mosaic – some elements emerge tending to escape towards a third dimension.
The same subjects are represented over and over, again hearts, butterflies, musical notes, but also balloons and merry-go-rounds: elements tied to the Artist’s recollections making up a kind of autobiographical dictionary, both simple, at the same time rich in allusions and appeal.
Nonetheless the choice of subjects belonging to a collective imaginary – therefore immediately recognisable – allows a flow of continuos conversation with the observer involved in a backwards journey; this brings to the retrieval of a free look, capable of feeling wonder before the things of the world.
In this way the Artist’s individual course becomes a trail to universal experience that every one can feel as their own. |
