Willow takes us in a parallel, densely populated world, made of plain colours and a precise, linear, continuous drawing, where each component has got its close lines - but in any case there’s some space for everyone!
This world is populated by very particular beings, midway between micro-organisms and viruses, who talk to each other by means of balloons; they don’t express themselves by using comic strip’s coded onomatopoeias, but rather by emitting sounds which identify them.
In this overpopulated world social challenges don’t lack and it’s interesting to see how in a rebellion to the established order the smallest beings are those who demonstrate against the tentacled leading figures who are afraid in front of such verbal boldness. The images that Willow shows us are seemingly ludicrous, but thanks to the underlying formal seriousness which characterizes them, they are endowed with undoubted communicative power and a great, amusing glamour.
