Svetlana Ostapovici

Svetlana Ostapovici was born in Ribnita, Republic of Moldova, in 1967.

In 1999 she moves to Italy and immediately she is attracted by any artistic expression that can be found on the peninsula, mainly she is spellbound by the Greek and Latin culture, by the historical stories, the ruins, the ancient artisan techniques, the monuments.
In Pompei she broadens her knowledge of the mosaic, and studies this technique in Ravenna and in Rome improving herself by working at a well-known art studio in Piazza San Pietro.
After that her artistic path is reborn from this personal elaboration of the mosaic-technique by the linguistic point of view, while the contents are focused and developed on a research of introspective matrix, on identification problems and on the question “Why do we exist?”.
Being an attentive and responsive artist, during the years she switches her focus towards the nature, conceived as existence’s foundation of the living creatures. At this point the photography becomes her expressive medium, by which she pins down the images of fires, destruction, and catastrophes which are generated by man.
Her work is an investigation and denunciation of humankind which, by nature is inclined to destroy and provokes inevitably its auto-destruction (Burnt Iron). For this reason her installations are formed with recycling materials while the lens focuses on what remains, on the matter’s transformation, on the dumps and on the yards.
For Ostapovici mankind can save itself from auto-destruction only by regenerating everything it uses, wastes, rejects. In this sense the set Metal recycling (with Iron canyon and Steel mountain ) is an exaltation of everything that can be recycled.
